Hoover Dam was named after Herbert C. Hoover, the 31st president of the United States. It is the largest hydroelectric power station in the western United States today and also one of the most important power providers in the United States. In 1931, the U.S. government spent huge sums of money and contracted a large number of workers to participate in the construction of the dam. After years of hard work and effort, the Hoover Dam was finally completed and ready to use in 1936, and later in the year it opened its doors to visitors from all over the world. It was by the support of Hoover Dam that Las Vegas was able to be developed into the world-renowned vacation spot it is today. The casinos, neon lights, glittering nightlife, and the “city that never sleeps” all benefited from Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam has provided many benefits for the western United States.
